Wedderspoon - New Zealand Wild Rata Honey
Great Taste 2014 3-stars and Top 50 Foods
A wonderful honey both in taste and aroma. The extra white color and creamy texture lets you know you are in for something new. In the mouth it has a luscious taste of warm and browned butter. It is clean and long lasting, with a sweetness that is never cloying or over the top. This unique honey would be a special gift for a friend.
Sourced from the beautiful crimson red WILD RATA trees native to the remote, protected, high elevation areas of New Zealand's South Island. Bees gather the Rata nectar from the southwest coast National Park rainforest regions making Rata a very unique rare honey. This unusually white colored, thick and creamy honey is free from GMOs, pesticides, preservatives, additives and antibiotics. Rata honey has a distinctive, mild, buttery flavor, and is considered by many honey connoisseurs as on of the finest honeys in the world. Wild Rata trees native to New Zealand’s South Island deliver a slight pine note to this floral honey. Judges were enamored, declaring it “an utterly gorgeous honey”, following up with: “This honey tastes amazing!” It was the smooth, velvety texture and clean, sweet, floral flavors that melt away beautifully that captivated our panel.
About the Producer:
In 2005, during a trip from the UK to visit her daughter Catherine in Canada, Diane Wedderspoon ran out of Manuka honey. Having taken the honey for years as part of her daily health regimen, Diane was shocked when she was unable to purchase her precious Manuka honey locally. A lengthy discussion on the powers of Manuka ensued, sparking husband and wife Sebastien and Catherine Martin’s interest in the rare New Zealand honey. Fiona Nelson, a family friend from Catherine’s childhood in the UK, joined Wedderspoon in 2006 and opened its US office, expanding the brand into the most important natural product retailers in the nation and solidifying Wedderspoon’s reputation as the global leader of quality Manuka honey.
Since its conception in 2005, Wedderspoon has grown from a couple of varieties of Manuka honey to include over 35 products, all made of the highest quality honey and ingredients. In its continued expansion, Wedderspoon maintains its focus on providing excellent customer service, product education and support.
In 2012 Wedderspoon opened their offices in the United Kingdom in order to bring the worlds finest honey to the European market, under the leadership of Catherine’s sister, Emma Cleary
As a young, innovative company, Wedderspoon aligns its decision-making with the principles of ethical and sustainable honey production, the support of bee conservation and the goal of reducing its negative impact on the environment.
