Mikolich Family - Wild Sage and Buckwheat

Mikolich Family

$ 3.00

Awards:
Good Food Awards 2016

Our Notes:
Wild Sage and Buckwheat honey has a lovely orange amber color, and a dense texture normally found in tree honeys.  Lovely spice aromas that are a bit elusive to describe, but most similarly resemble dried green tea and cloves.  Sweet caramel flavors tend towards crème brulee or a brioche bread pudding with caramel sauce from Tartine Bakery in San Francisco.

Producer's Notes:
This beautiful amber wildflower honey is a unique mix of native San Diego wildflowers. Mikolich Sage Buckwheat showcases different layers of flavors. Starting mild, transitioning to bright and floral, and finishing with a bit of a bite from the Wild Buckwheat. Erika likes to use in her coffee, on greek yogurt, paired with cacao, vanilla or anything with a hint of spice (nutmeg, cinnamon). It has a deep rich body with a bright floral finish. This honey is unique and was chosen as winner in a blind tasting panel with 80 judges.

About the Producer:
The Mikolich Family has been in the bee business for nearly 40 years. Alan Mikolich kept bees in his backyard when he was young, and his passion continued to grow until he became an adult working alongside family friends in San Deigo, California. In 1985, Alan and his wife Mary decided to go independent. They started their own compay while Mary was pregnant with their 3rd child Erika. It was a brave move at the time, but 25 years later she too would join the business. The shilft in today's honey industry is rapidly changing the way they approach their business. The Mikoolichs pride themselves on making the best quality honey possible. They have a variety of different locations that they harvest honey, ranging from Temecula in the North to San Deigo in the South.
