One of the reasons that we began Yummy Artisan Foods was because of a plum jam. This is a fantastic jam that reminds us why we enjoy eating these beautiful artisanal products. Italian plums are red skinned with a red interior, and a relatively small size, but packed with a ton of flavor. This jam is tart, and rich, and has wonderful meaty plum chunks.
Spoon preserves, more like a traditional jam, have a softer set than the cutting preserves. They are equally at home on toast, dessert, or cheese, and rich with pieces of fruit. Italian Plum & Anise Hyssop – Orcas Island’s beloved Italian Plums (Prune Alley, in the middle of town, used to be a country lane through an orchard of Italian prune trees) shine in this well-rounded preserve-accented with garden grown anise hyssop. Deep purple, rich, with just a hint of licorice. Try with chocolate mousse.
